On April 4, 2018, Dr. Alexander Edward Metcalf of Transportation Economics & Management Systems, Inc. shared preliminary findings from the passenger rail feasibility study to an engaged crowd of stakeholders in Traverse City. Included in the presentation were the options for potential passenger service, and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
The rail study is looking at the economics and practicality of bringing passenger rail service from Ann Arbor to Traverse City and Petoskey. The study is expected to be finished this coming June. In local media coverage, Metcalf said the early results of the study point to a viable and successful project.
Hans Voss, Executive Director of Groundwork Center shared his enthusiasm for the community engagement. Then, James Bruckbauer, Deputy Director, and Transportation Policy Specialist talked about the goals of the study and path forward.
